OSDA WORKCAMPS

OSDA organises three weeks’ voluntary projects known as ‘WorkCamp’. These projects are organised in cooperation with local communities. The WorkCamp is a unique form of volunteering, bringing together people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds to live and work together with local communities for a period of three weeks.

The WorkCamp aim to break down barriers between people and develop intercultural understanding and promote culture of peaceful coexistence among people. The projects place a strong emphasis on intercultural learning and include elements of peace education. There are two different kinds of pro to choose from and they are open to everyone.

Project Description This project is organized in collaboration with the Leklebi Agbesia community. The community considers this project the most important and prioritize it over others as a community library is an important partner in sustainability.

The main goal of the project is to provide a suitable I.C.T Library building for the students in Leklebi Agbesia in order to enable them use their after school hours, weekends and holidays productively.

Task of Volunteers Volunteers shall be engaging in manual labour  during the construction.
Leisure Volunteers shall tour to a lot of tourist sites within the area namely: Wli waterfall, the tallest waterfall in West Africa, measuring about 143 metres  from the upper fall to the plunge pool below it. Aflabo  waterfall, Mt. “Afadza”  (Afadjato), Tagbo falls at Liati-Wote, the monkey sanctuary at Tafi-Atome etc.

The volunteers also make time to visit other sites such Cape Coast Slave Castle, beaches (there are numerous beaches in Ghana), national parks and others after the camp.

Accommodation Volunteers will be accommodated in the community designated house.
Requirements No special skills required, however a volunteer should be open minded and interested to learn new culture and work with other volunteers from different backgrounds.
Practical information Volunteers should bring along the following: Mosquito net. Working shoes (boots), Medication. Flashlight, Games, Musical Instruments, Social/casual dresses, sandals and shoes for their personal use. Toiletries.
Participation Fee The participation fee covers pick up from the airport/bus station upon arrival in Ghana. orientation , evaluation, monitoring, project set up, administrative expenses, supporting the projects, running of activities during the project, certificate of participation, Three (3) square meals at camp and communication prior to, during and after the camp.

The fee does not cover

  • Meals before and after the camp.  
  • Excursions after projects.
  • Internal travels to and from the project station.
  • Refreshment outside the project
  • Air ticket, excursions, visa and insurance
  • Local travel and personal effects.
  • Visa fees
  •  any other cost not associated with the camp
